Heavier Than Air

Heavier Than Air is an ongoing series of commercial and editorial images made on commissions and assignments for leading aerospace companies, brands, and publications, featured by Smithsonian Air & Space, and have even become clothing and accessories by Louis Vuitton

Modern air travel has wholly disconnected the passenger from the experience of flying. From the terminal curb to our 16" wide seat, most of us get a small glimpse of the machine we're about to trust our lives to, let alone the individuals who make it all happen.

Throughout this series and all of my aviation work, I leverage my experience as a former airline captain with over 10,000 hours of flight time, to explore modern air travel, the shapes, contours, colors, and ultimately the human vs. machine relationship. From the ground, these aircraft, some weighing close to 560 tons at take-off, seem to hang motionless, weightless, at peace. But in reality, they're heavier than air.
