Ode to Eris (Discord)
Plaster fresco and fabric inspired by Homer’s Iliad.
The marriage of Peleus, grandson of Zeus, to Thetis, daughter of the sea god Nereus, was a significant event on Mount Olympus. The couple invited every major and minor deity to the ceremony except Eris, the goddess of Discord.
Furious at the slight, Eris appeared anyway, bringing a beautiful golden apple from the Garden of the Hesperides (Hera's Orchard) inscribed “To the fairest.” Hera, Aphrodite, and Athena immediately fell into a bitter argument as to which of them deserved the apple.
Details:
This piece was struck in January 2023 and completed in February 2023. Constructed on 3/4” plywood, layers of plaster and pigments create a wonderfully textured surface. This fabric along the left side adds contrast to the idyllic wedding scene.

Signed.
